Quaranteam

5/15/2020

March 13, 2020 is when the quarantine started for us. For the most part, we've been together all day every day for 64 days now, and if wasn't for people dying, the fear of dying or becoming deathly ill, small business closing, child abuse rates rising, and the economy collapsing- I would even say it's been awesome, but instead I'll just say I know I married the right person. We've been able to go through this process with grace, a positive attitude, and still wanting to be around each other, so just like every email in your inbox currently, here how we've been surviving & handling COVID-19

BEING SILLY

My favorite thing we've done thus far is dressing up as Joe Exotic and his cats from the Netflix docuseries, Tiger King. A close second was filming our promo videos for our favorite local spot, Tea Sip. Both events have their own post on this site- that's how much I adore them!
*(pssst!  The photos below are linked to their posts!)*

WE NOW HAVE A CAT

I think the biggest news to come from this quarantine is our new cat, Steel. He strolled in to the garage while Cody was working one night and never left. We never in a million years thought we would own a cat, not because we don't like them, but because we never wanted a litter box. I guess our love for him overruled the disdain for a box of poop in our entryway (update - we now have a Cat Genie). Here are a few of the first text exchanges that started it all (and a few glamour shots of our handsome new addition)! You can read more about him in our ABOUT section, by clicking here

HOME PROJECTS

Picture
Our first day of being quarantined together we decided to rid our house of everything we don't love or need anymore, and we started with the attic. We took EVERYTHING down, went through each box and consolidated; We then decked the majority of the attic to get maximum storage! Now our attic is organized but our house is a CRAZY hot mess- We didn't think this all the way through. We can't have a garage sale, the donation centers aren't open, and
people are weary of Facebook Market place... But our attic looks amazing (oy vey). Next, is all about doors. We were able to snag a free door that was much cooler than our current pantry door. After a quick stain it was perfect and ready to be installed- BUT TRAGEDY STRIKES! Instead of shaving off an inch to fit the door frame, Cody's almost shaved off his entire thumb! Luckily he shut off his machine just in time. After a few stitches and a good night's sleep, we gave our front door a face lift. We painted it black and added copper accents that are going to look even better when they patina!
Cody finally finished setting up his workshop in the garage, and holey moley, has he been using it! He was able to knockout the tree stump side table that he cut down and milled from his grandpa's property before knocking out some custom orders (see next section below). We also purchased a few 1970's swag lights that I can't wait to place, and I mocked up a rendering for our new laundry room that I'm sure we'll get to eventually... Then it'll be all about our master bathroom. Wish us luck!
Another thing we love doing is going to open houses and dreaming up how we would redesign the home. I actually spent A LOT of time on one house in particular (we fell in love with the history and the mid century design. It was built in 1972 and it needed updating..I loved her.)
*Note 1: There was NO floor plan so I had to do this by memory. I really love making floor plans.
*Note 2: I do my renderings in PowerPoint. I convert feet to inches to ensure I have the right measurements and scale. I really need to learn Sketch Up. // PS: I'm still working on the master bathroom layout- I have a TON of ideas for that, so please ignore that room

MILES MADE, INC / PASSION PROJECTS

Picture
This quarantine has really enabled us to put all our energy in to our passions. Mine is web and graphic design, home and interior design, sleeping, and watching TV. Cody's is more lucrative. He started, "Miles Made, INC," custom decor & furniture, but his cutting boards, brisket boards, catch all trays, bar boards, and charcuterie boards have been his best sellers!
If you want to own your own M|M piece, check out our SHOP page, let me know in the comments, or cruise our Instagram @MilesMadeInc (make sure you use #MilesMadeinc). Now offering shipping!
Our babies really enjoy us being home too and make sure to join us with whatever we're doing

VIRTUAL HANGOUTS

Another awesome thing to come from all of this, are all the musicians, comedians, and actors doing live and interactive videos. We were able to have a 1 minute one on one with Cody's favorite artist (next to Dave Grohl), Drake White. Here is our session and the two silly videos we record while waiting for it start. Drake is seriously the nicest guy and he has amazing style (he likes hats too).
With social distancing being the main defense, of course we've participated in our share of group chats. Weekly face-times are mandatory with these kids and we even had a virtual birthday game night for my Work Husband (who i don't work with anymore), Matt. We played pictionary- I highly suggest doing this, it was really funny! *Note: don't try to draw well, it doesn't do you any favors!

JEANNIE NEEDS A JOB - ROUND 2

Picture
Sadly, I was laid off on Friday, the 13th of March. Just one week before the mandatory/voluntary quarantine. The company I was working for didn't even get a chance to miss me, I feel gypped! So now I'm back where I was July 2018, searching for my path and trying to land a job in a field I find interesting and where I can make a difference. Where can you see me working? I included my resume just in case you want to see what I'm capable of. If I'm honest with myself, I really want to be in the interior design / home remodeling arena. Maybe staging, flipping houses, or all of the above! I also have a passion for philanthropy- anything that helps people (stopping human trafficking, ending homelessness), or helps animals I would LOVE to do.

ROUTINE CHANGE UP

Mystic Tanning has been replaced with a tan in a can called, "Tan AF," and simply the sun. I started laying out in my luxurious pool while listening to My Favorite Murder podcast on Spotify.
Makeup is a thing of the past. It's now all about the face masks. I'm currently reenacting Hannibal Lecter's scene from Silence of the Lambs wearing The Creme Shop Lavender Oil Infused Face Mask.
We still frequent Whataburger & utilize Doordash, but luckily Cody enjoys cooking and better yet, he's good at it! Here are some highlights of Chef Cody's Cuisine (his burgers are legit)

PEOPLE ARE AWESOME

As an ENFP, I naturally love people, and this quarantine has proven me right time and time again. We seriously have the best people surrounding us. John & Molly left an adorable care package on our doorstep (video courtesy of our Ring doorbell). It was full of dog toys, bourbon, chocolates, fruitcake, and hand sanitizer:
Picture
Cody's parents are AMAZING! They sent us an "Easter Basket/Box" full of goodies, and a few weeks later another package from their dog, Maverick to our fur babies! It had cat & dog treats, a cute note from Mav, and 2 balls that make the craziest noises (see video):
Picture
And if you don't feel you need to wear a mask, that's fair, but maybe this Urine Test I found on Reddit will help you change your mind... I mean, you can't argue with solid logic like this!
Picture
:And our friends Nick & Erika, knowing our love for Tiger King, sent us this gem! Yep, that's mister Joe Exotic on a face mask, something Cody proudly represents:
Picture
Well, there you have it folks! That's how we've been coping with COVID. How have you been spending time in quarantine? Share in the comments!

PS:

If you're looking for a mask, I HIGHLY suggest buying from Alantude. 100% of the proceeds go to Meals on Wheels. A nonprofit that provides home-delivered meals to disabled adults over the age of 60 in the Houston and Galveston area. Alan has been able to employ people during this crazy time, plus he's fabulous, and his designs are dope (yep. I said dope).
